There is a lot of news about the conclave and what will become of the church with a new pope? A number of my friends point out that we should not worry because it is His church. That’s what I believe as well, but am concerned that much of the church seems to have forgotten that. I hope a new pope will lead us back to an earlier church. No, I don’t mean the liturgy and incense etc. I mean a church focused on prayer and evangelization. I may have too ideal a vision of a church which is a Christian Community based on the two great commandments. I will probably reflect on this more in other comments, but I see a church that needs to focus on two things. Namely education, and care of those who are mentally unstable. These are two great needs in the world today and need attention. Education in its broadest sense, and focused concentration on a neglected health area which has resulted in homelessness and related byproducts. The church needs to be a leader and not just a cheerleader in these areas. I pray a new pope will build on a foundation that has deteriorated over the centuries.
