Here is what I would like to ask our priests. If the church’s role is to lead us to a new Jerusalem that is heaven, then what would heaven be like. The Lord said we would not be married in heaven! Well then what would we all be like and how would we interact? Who would be the pope in heaven since we have had so many popes that have died, and many are Saints? What about bishops, who would be the bishops in heaven? The priests? Well, if the answer would be there are no popes, bishops, priests in heaven since we would all be saints. Then we would be a true community in the Lord’s presence. But if that’s the goal, why aren’t we working in that direction on earth? It appears to me that the church on earth is no longer interested in that goal. Rather it is concerned about power and privilege. And it seems to be abandoning what it has practiced for centuries. It’s response to the current ills of the world and the declining church membership is by turning to processions, adoration chapels, and golden altars. Completely forgetting what the prophet Nathan told David when David wanted to build a house for the Lord. So, how has the church affected the world?
