The Shepherd & the Sheep

What does a shepherd do every day? First he gets up has a bite to eat and puts on his sandals (because he is going to be stepping in and around sheep patties all day). Then he lets the sheep out of their pen and leads them to a green pasture. When there he keeps an eye on them and if one strays away he goes after it to bring it back to the pasture. In the meantime, he speaks softly to them and may serenade them with some mellow songs.

What do the sheep do? They eat to fatten themselves for eventual slaughter to feed the hungry. And they grow wool for clothing the naked. They choose which grass and shrubs to eat and which sips of water they need to sustain themselves.

The shepherds don’t tell the sheep which plants to eat and which plants they shouldn’t eat. Or when they should drink or how much.

Both the sheep and the shepherds have roles to fill and support each other. Does the church work that way?
